Savannah is one of StartupPoint’s connecting cities in our southeastern entrepreneurial network. Caila Brown, Community Manager for ThincSavannah, gave us insight into what is special about Savannah’s small but vastly growing community of startups.
You maybe wondering what makes Savannah great for startups? It’s all about Southern charm. Caila says, “For all that Savannah is a city, it has a down-home Southern feel which is part of our unique charm in being a great community for startups. Because of the variety of schools and large businesses in the area we draw in artists, technology partners, lawyers, finance professionals and more — and we also have a stalwart group of locals who want to see new startups thrive.”
Caila is involved in the startup community in Savannah in many ways. She works with startups and small businesses at ThincSavannah, one of the city’s premier coworking and shared office spaces. She is also a steering committee member for Savannah GreenDrinks, the local networking group for environmentally focused professionals. “I help local eco-friendly initiatives get off the ground while connecting green businesses,” said Caila.
Shared office spaces are being utilized across the United States. The coworking space is a new way for startups and small businesses to not just cut the cost of exclusive offices, but perhaps more importantly, connect with individuals and resources that can help these businesses succeed.
“Many startups become insular and fail because they can’t see different points of view — I help to provide that other side. We also put on various events throughout the year celebrating the local business community and giving them opportunities to speak and network with other startups and facilitators,” said Caila.
Caila is one of many connectors in Savannah contributing to the greater good of her community. She wears multiple hats making her the ideal Founding Connector for StartupPoint. We are truly glad to have her!
If you want to learn more about becoming a Connector, or if you know an entrepreneur who would like to be part of StartupPoint, send them our way!
We created StartupPoint to open the startup playing field to every entrepreneur. Somehow, a video captures an emotion better than text or photos can. We created this video to share our vision of what local startup communities could look like if all of the right people and resources were readily available. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!
